Around my native garden #8

Kookaburra in my back garden
Several new blooms have appeared in my backyard native garden this past fortnight.  As mentioned before, I have planted this complete section with Australian native plants, and placed old logs, a water dish and plenty of pinebark mulch to make it attractive for the local wildlife.  Many of the younger plants still have a good deal more growing to do and more recently I have added four extra shrubs and two new grasses.

My back yard garden spans the full
length of the back fence and is 5m deep on the right

Whereas the Kookaburras, Noisy Miners, Lorikeets, Butcher Birds and Crows are a regular occurrence around the backyard, we have had the company of a pair of Pied Currawong Strepera graculina in recent weeks.  It's always exciting to see new arrivals!!

  3. I'm enjoying reading Australian blogs this time of year-your flowers and birds are quite the contrast to the gray skies and landscapes in my part of the the US.

  4. Hi Leanne,
    The banksia flower looks great.
It will be gorgeous when in full bloom.
Nice work on the blog too.

  5. Good luck with your native garden. They are certainly the easiest to take care of especially when you are away exploring Australia as I see you do. I recognise many of your photos as being similar to mine especially the Carnarvon Gorge. We have similar interests. Unfortunately my 20 year old native garden is starting to look old and tired but I am getting too old and tired to renovate it. I had a lovely grevillea tree fall over in the last storm. It is hard to replant one tree amongst other mature trees as they don't get enough light/sun to grow. I think I might replace it with a Lilly pilly as they don't mind shade or sun.
